Irrigation during concomitant bipolar ablation: does it matter?

چکیده
Background Use of irrigation catheters increases the power supply energy to create transmural injury [Jais P., Shah D.C., Haissaguerre M. et al., 2000]. However, these data are based on the catheter procedures and concomitant monopolar endocardial ablation [Deneke T., Khargi K. et al., 2007]. The benefits of using irrigation during bipolar concomitant ablation has no reflection in the literature.

Neuroprotection due to irrigation during bipolar cautery.
OBJECTIVE To test whether irrigation during bipolar cautery confers thermoprotection from neuronal injury. DESIGN A rat animal model (15 rats for each treatment group) was used to test the thermoprotective effects of irrigation during bipolar cautery. In this model, the sciatic nerve was exposed, and a 1-second stimulus was applied using bipolar cautery forceps at 40 or 20 W placed directly o...
متن کاملA 5-year clinical experience with bipolar radiofrequency ablation for permanent atrial fibrillation concomitant to coronary artery bypass grafting and aortic valve surgery.
This study analyses the 5-year results of permanent atrial fibrillation (pAF) bipolar radiofrequency (RF) ablation surgery concomitant to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and/or aortic valve (AV) surgery. Eighty-five patients with pAF (0.5-30 years) underwent bipolar RF ablation procedure concomitant to CABG/AV surgery. All patients were restudied to assess survival, conversion rate to st...
متن کاملMid-term results of a closed biatrial procedure using bipolar radiofrequency ablation concomitantly performed with non-mitral cardiac operations.
The long-term success rate of the Cox maze III procedure is excellent, although it has not been widely adopted because of the need for extensive incisions of the atria. In this study, we report our experience with a closed biatrial procedure using bipolar radiofrequency (RF) ablation for treating atrial fibrillation (AF) during non-mitral cardiac operations. Beginning in December 2004, a total ...
متن کاملPermanent atrial fibrillation ablation surgery in patients with advanced age
BACKGROUND Even if permanent atrial fibrillation (pAF) is a frequent concomitant problem in patients undergoing open heart surgery and particularly in those with advanced age, data of pAF ablation surgery in older aged patients are scarce. This study was performed to assess early and late results of combined open heart surgery and pAF ablation procedures in patients with advanced aged, compared...
متن کاملHow effective is microwave ablation for atrial fibrillation during concomitant cardiac surgery?
A best evidence topic in cardiothoracic surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was whether performing microwave ablative procedures during concomitant cardiac surgical procedures is effective for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). In total, 200 papers were found using the reported search, of which 12 represented the best evidence to answer the cli...
